Call for Help

Postby Ace Starleaf » June 28th, 2008, 12:13 am

If anyone would like to help in the Editing, QA, or Translation aspects please post in this thread.

In your post please list:
1) What you would like to help with.

2) Any professional or community qualifications you may have. (Not required, but a nice to have ^_^)
- For example
- Translation: are you a native speaker? or have you passed any of the JLPT exams?
- Editing: are you a member of any fansub group? Can you give an example of your work.

3) Anything you believe may be relevant.

The addition of members to the Staff List will be made by Majority vote of the current members.

Please DO NOT post in this topic unless you are applying to help with the project.

Hi,

I would like to help out with translation. I have studied Japanese for 2 years and find myself quite comfortable with reading and writing, even though I'm by no means ready with my Japanese studies. I haven't done any JLPT exams, but I think that I'm at around level 2.
I have played Kimi ga Nozomu Eien about a year ago and really liked the game (and of course, the anime as well ^^).

But well, I have no experience of translation so far.

If you want to reach me, please send an email.

Oops! I had sent Ace a PM informing him that I wanted to be an editor, but I probably should have posted it here. Sorry, I just forgot about this thread.

Original PM:

I was wondering if I would be able to be an editor for the KimiNozo translation project. I don't have any Japanese or hacking skills, but I would be able to check for errors in the text and make the sentances flow better. AnimeXploit has given me some details in the "Questions About the ~Latest Edition~" thread that I made and told me to contact you.

Would you want me as an editor? If so, is there anything I need to know before starting?

LOL, don't worry about it. I should have posted here in the first place, instead of sending you a PM.

I'd actually like to do some editing for consistency and general game flow.

As far as Japanese proficiency, I've taken 2 years in college and though I'm relatively confident in my skills, kanji reading is a weakness for me, which is why I'm not volunteering as a translator. Because of this, though, if I were provided with Japanese side-by-side with the English, I could probably work with the translation a little better to try to edit text tightly but still try to keep imagery and and find parallels to the idiomatic expressions of the original.

My other qualifications: I have a computer with Final Cut, so I could help with any movie scene translations there might be. Also, I've done some non-professional editing while at school for a couple of student organizations. Also, here's my blog I'm working on as the President of the University of Oklahoma Animation Society: akinotsuki.wordpress.com. Thanks!
